Platd beta
Terms of
Service.
Effective October 3, 2026.
1. Who we are and what these terms cover
Platd is run by Bault LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company ("Platd", "we", "us"). These terms cover the Platd iPhone app, the web app at app.platd.com, the website at platd.com and the service behind them (together, "Platd").
By creating an account or using Platd, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy at platd.com/privacy. If you don't agree, please don't use Platd.
2. Platd is a beta
Platd is in beta, offered in the United States and Canada, in English. That means:
- Features can change, pause or be removed, sometimes without notice.
- Things may break, run slowly or be unavailable. We don't promise any particular availability.
- Platd is free during the beta.
We protect beta users' information as real customer data.
3. What Platd does
Platd lets you send a message to a car's owner using its license plate.
- You can claim a plate for a vehicle you drive, so messages sent to that plate reach you.
- You don't need a car or a plate to use Platd. You can still send messages and receive replies.
- One account can hold several plates. They all deliver to the same inbox.
Platd is not affiliated with any government, motor vehicle agency or law enforcement body. We don't look plates up in any government registry, and a claim on Platd is not proof of registration or ownership.
4. Who can use Platd
- You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under 18, or under the age of majority where you live, you need a parent's or guardian's permission, and they agree to these terms for you.
- You need an email address that you control.
- One person per account. Don't share an account, create one for someone else, or create accounts to get around a block, a declined request or a suspension.
5. Your account
- You sign in with a one-time code sent to your email, and you can add a password, an authenticator app and passkeys.
- Keep your sign-in methods to yourself. Never share a sign-in code. Platd staff will never ask you for one.
- You are responsible for what happens under your account. If you think someone else has access, sign out on your devices and email support@platd.com.
- Our sign-in emails come from a sending-only address. Replies to it are not read.
6. Claiming a plate
- Claim only your own vehicle. You may claim a plate only for a vehicle you own, lease or regularly drive with the owner's permission (for example, a family or company car). You don't have to be named on the title or registration.
- What a claim means. A claim means messages sent to that plate on Platd reach your account. It is not proof of ownership and gives you no legal rights in the vehicle or the plate.
- One account per plate. A plate (its state, province or territory plus its number) belongs to one Platd account at a time. Symbols on a plate are for display only, so LOVE♥U and LOVEU are the same plate.
- Never claim a plate to read someone else's messages, to impersonate anyone or to keep a plate from its real driver. We may remove claims that break this rule.
- When you stop driving a vehicle, stop holding its plate. Email support@platd.com and we will release it, or delete your account, which releases all your plates.
- Optional checks. Where the app offers it, you can add your vehicle's VIN privately or send a registration document for a Platd reviewer to confirm your claim. Send only true, unaltered documents for your own vehicle.
7. Claim disputes
If someone else has claimed a plate you drive, you can ask for a review.
- You send a photo of the vehicle's registration (or a similar document) through the app.
- A Platd reviewer looks at it privately and decides. The app does not award plates automatically.
- The reviewer can leave the current claim in place or move the plate to you. Both people are told the outcome in the app. The current holder does not see your document.
- When a plate moves, earlier messages stay with the people who sent and received them, and replies to earlier conversations still go to the original participants.
- If you think a decision is wrong, email support@platd.com with any new information and we will take another look. Our decision about a claim decides only who receives that plate's messages on Platd.
- Fake, altered or borrowed documents can lose you the plate and your account.
8. Messaging
- Who receives a message. A message to a plate goes to the account that holds that plate, who may not be the person who was driving.
- Plates nobody has claimed. If nobody has claimed a plate yet, Platd holds your message for up to 90 days and delivers it to whoever claims the plate. You can withdraw it while it waits. If nobody claims the plate in time, it is never delivered.
- First contact is one message. The first message to someone new is a request. If they accept, you can both continue. If they decline, you can't send them more messages. Accepting a conversation doesn't make you friends.
- Messages can't be unsent. Once delivered, a message can't be edited or deleted, and the recipient keeps it.
- No delivery promise. Messages may arrive late or not at all, and the other person may never read or answer them.
9. Friends
Friendship is optional and mutual. A friendship starts from a conversation you have both replied in, or from a single-use invite code that you choose to share. You can remove a friend at any time.
10. Acceptable use
Platd is for useful, polite contact between people about cars and the road. You must not use Platd to:
- harass, bully, stalk or intimidate anyone, or keep contacting someone who has declined, blocked or reported you;
- threaten violence or harm to anyone, or to their vehicle or property;
- try to find out who someone is, where they live or what other plates they hold, publish someone's personal information (doxxing), or build lists of people and plates;
- send hate speech, sexual content to people who haven't asked for it, or any sexual content involving minors;
- impersonate a person, a business, the police or any official body;
- send spam, advertising, scams or links meant to trick people;
- claim plates that aren't yours or submit false documents;
- get around a block, a declined request, a rate limit or a suspension, including with new accounts;
- scan plates in bulk, scrape, overload, probe or reverse-engineer Platd, or access accounts or data that aren't yours;
- break the law or help others to.
11. Heads-ups on heated drafts
If a draft looks heated or threatening, Platd may show a heads-up and suggest calmer wording before you send. You can always choose to send your original. The check is automatic and rule-based: it will miss some hostile messages and flag some calm ones. It doesn't make any message acceptable, and you remain responsible for what you send. Saying "no", "cancel" or "don't send" never sends a message.
12. Declining, blocking and reporting
- Decline a message request to stop that conversation.
- Block someone to stop them contacting you on Platd, whichever plate they use.
- Report a message to send it, with an optional note, to Platd staff for private review. Reports of threats go to staff. We don't tell the sender who reported them.
- Reviewing reports is not an emergency service, and we can't promise a response time.
13. Not for emergencies
- Platd is not an emergency service and is not the police. If anyone is in danger, a vehicle is causing an immediate hazard, or a child or animal is at risk in a vehicle, contact local emergency services (911 in the US and Canada) first.
- Don't rely on Platd for anything urgent or safety-critical.
- Never use Platd while driving. Voice and hands-free features exist to reduce distraction, not to make using your phone while driving safe or legal.
- We don't verify anyone's identity. Be careful about sharing personal details or meeting someone you met on Platd.
- The beta does not use your location. Friend location sharing and safety recording are not part of the beta.
14. Your content
- You own what you write and upload, such as messages, your profile, car details and documents.
- You give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free permission to store, process, display and deliver that content only as needed to run and protect Platd: for example, to deliver your message, show the details you choose to share, review a claim or a report, keep the service secure and meet legal obligations. This permission ends when the content is deleted from our systems, except for content already delivered to others, such as a sent message.
- You are responsible for having the right to share what you send.
15. Feedback
You can send feedback through TestFlight or to support@platd.com. If you send ideas or feedback, we may use them without owing you anything.
16. Our right to act
To keep Platd safe and working, we may:
- remove content, plate claims or friend links that break these terms;
- limit, suspend or close accounts that break these terms or put others at risk;
- change, pause or end features, or Platd itself.
When we suspend or close an account, we will tell you why in the app or by email, unless doing so would put someone at risk or the law forbids it. If you think we got it wrong, email support@platd.com and we will review it.
17. Leaving Platd
You can stop using Platd at any time. You can delete your account in the iPhone app, under Settings, or, if you use only the web app, by emailing privacy@platd.com from your account's email address. Deleting your account signs you out everywhere, hides your profile at once and erases your account after 30 days, when your plates are released. Until then you can restore it by signing in to the iPhone app with an email code. Messages you sent stay with the people who received them. The Privacy Policy explains the details. These terms end for you when your account is deleted, except the sections that by their nature should continue, such as sections 14 and 19 to 22.
18. Apple
If you use the Platd iPhone app, Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement and App Store terms also apply. Bault LLC, not Apple, is responsible for the app and its support. Apple has no obligation to provide support for it and, to the extent the law allows, no other warranty obligation. Apple is not responsible for claims about the app, including product liability, legal compliance or intellectual property claims. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
19. Disclaimers
Platd is provided "as is" and "as available", especially during the beta. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don't promise that Platd will be accurate, uninterrupted, secure or error-free, or that any message will be delivered, read or answered. We don't control what other people say or do, and we don't confirm who owns or drives any vehicle. Plate reading from photos and speech recognition can be wrong, so always check the plate before you send.
20. Limits on our liability
To the fullest extent the law allows:
- Bault LLC and its members, managers, employees and providers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, goodwill or use, arising from or related to Platd, even if we were told they were possible.
- Our total liability for all claims related to Platd is limited to the greater of 100 US dollars or the amount you paid us for Platd in the 12 months before the claim (which is nothing during the free beta).
Some places don't allow these limits, so some of them may not apply to you.
21. Your responsibility
If someone brings a claim against Bault LLC because of content you sent or your breach of these terms, you agree to cover our reasonable costs and losses from that claim, to the extent the law allows.
22. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wyoming, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Before going to court, please email support@platd.com so we can try to resolve the problem informally. Any dispute that isn't resolved that way will be decided in the state or federal courts located in Wyoming, and you and we consent to their jurisdiction. Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under consumer protection laws where you live that can't be waived by contract, including your right to bring a claim in your local courts where those laws give you one.
23. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as Platd changes. If a change matters, we will tell you in the app or by email at least 14 days before it takes effect, unless the change is needed sooner for safety or legal reasons. If you keep using Platd after a change takes effect, the new terms apply. If you don't agree, you can delete your account.
24. General
If any part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a term right away, we can still enforce it later. You can't transfer these terms to anyone else; we may transfer them as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets. These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about Platd.
